Research

Existing Evidence

There is mounting evidence that nature delivers health benefits that civil society can and does enjoy knowingly or unknowingly. For example, several studies have shown that open green spaces provide both physical and mental health benefits. Walking in nature reduces stress, improves moods and enhances social cohesion. Trees in urban areas improve local climate and reduce heat, clean the air and help in erosion control and water purification. The health benefits that nature provides can help alleviate public health issues such as mental health, waterborne disease outbreaks and air pollution related diseases. However, research that links nature and human health is insufficiently explored and needs urgent attention.

Project Goals

Our aim in this project is to raise awareness and bring these benefits to our community while strengthening the scientific evidence on the health benefits of nature. We want to answer questions such as

  1. What are the mental benefits humans get from nature?
  2. How often and how much time does one need to spend in nature to get those benefits?

There are many more questions to be answered but this is the start of a long research agenda that we have. We really hope our community will support us in this endeavor and  make use of the Nature Wellness Stations and scan the QR code to respond to questions we have asked.
